Pet Urgent & Emergency Care

When something feels off with your pet, you shouldn’t have to wait days for an appointment. Our urgent and emergency care services provide timely medical attention when your pet needs to be seen quickly, giving you peace of mind and helping ensure they receive the care they need when it matters most.

We reserve a limited number of same-day urgent and emergency care appointments each day to help pets receive prompt medical attention when unexpected illnesses, injuries, and emergencies arise. Whether your pet is experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, limping, an injury, sudden behavioral changes, or another health concern, our team is here to evaluate the situation, provide treatment, and help them feel better as quickly as possible.

If we are unable to accommodate your pet, we will help guide you to a trusted local emergency veterinary hospital to ensure they receive the timely care they need.

Signs Your Pet May Need Immediate Medical Attention

Pets can’t tell us when something is wrong, but changes in their behavior, appearance, or physical condition can signal that they need prompt veterinary care.

If your pet is showing any of the following signs, we recommend contacting our team as soon as possible:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Coughing, sneezing, or difficulty breathing
  • Ear infections, head shaking, or ear discomfort
  • Eye redness, discharge, swelling, or squinting
  • Urinary issues, including straining or blood in the urine
  • Limping, pain, or difficulty walking
  • Cuts, wounds, bite injuries, or excessive bleeding
  • Rash, hives, facial swelling, or sudden itching
  • Broken or overgrown nails
  • Sudden behavioral changes
  • Dehydration or excessive thirst
  • Suspected toxin or foreign body ingestion
  • Collapse or inability to stand
  • Seizures
  • Heatstroke
  • Abdominal bloating or distension
  • Severe trauma, including being hit by a vehicle
  • Inability to urinate
  • Loss of consciousness

If your pet is experiencing any of these symptoms—or if something simply doesn’t seem right—please call us at (570) 534-0718. Our team can help determine the best next steps and prepare for your pet’s arrival if immediate medical attention is needed.

Urgent Care FAQs

L
What’s the difference between an urgent care visit and an emergency?
Urgent care is for medical concerns that require prompt attention but are not life-threatening. An office hours emergency involves life-threatening conditions that require immediate medical care for survival.

Examples of life-threatening emergencies include:

  • Being hit by a car
  • Severe difficulty breathing
  • Inability to urinate
  • Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Collapse or seizures

Is Pocono Peak Veterinary Center equipped to handle life-threatening emergencies during regular hours?

Yes. During our regular business hours, our medical team is equipped to provide emergency and lifesaving care. If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening medical concern, please call our clinic immediately at (570) 534-0718 so we can prepare for your arrival.

K
L
What if my pet needs hospitalization or surgery during the visit?
Our doctor will discuss all recommended treatment options with you and review next steps. In some cases, specialty surgery or 24-hour monitoring may be required. If that level of care is needed, we will coordinate a transfer to a trusted specialty or emergency hospital.

L
Can I drop my pet off for an urgent care visit?
We offer a limited number of drop-off appointments each day. If you’re interested in a drop-off option, please call our office to check availability and review drop-off instructions.

What payment options do you accept?
We do not offer in-house payment plans. We accept major credit cards, checks, cash, CareCredit, and Scratchpay. Our team will review all treatment estimates with you before proceeding.

How do I schedule an urgent care appointment?
If your pet has a non-life-threatening medical concern, please call our office to check same-day urgent care availability. We also accept walk-ins; however, calling ahead helps us better prepare for your pet’s arrival.
